The assessment is fully digital and delivered online. It consists of automarked and examiner-marked questions. Automarked aspects of the assessment support a fair, standardized, rapid return of results. Examiner-marked aspects allow for the assessment of aspects of learning that require the learner to express their own ideas or explain their working.

To permit full coverage of the curriculum and support detailed reporting while keeping test time manageable for learners of this age, the assessment consists of three tests, including a fully examiner-marked test of writing that will at launch be optional for schools.
