Work with IT staff before each test session to set up each test-taking device and
load the test player ready for students to log in:

  • Generate test-taker codes and distribute these to the test-takers
  • Display the test session code (e.g. on a whiteboard) in the exam room
  • Check that each device has a working headset set at an appropriate volume
  • Set the browser to full screen view (rather than a window view)
  • Turn off any browser plug-ins, e.g. auto grammar and spelling check
  • Close all software, apps, or browser windows or tabs that are not relevant to the test
  • Properly space the desks, positioning devices so that students cannot see each other’s screens (we suggest at least 1.1m apart)
  • Ensure the room is well lit and away from any potential disruption from external noise
  • Explain the test format and expectations to test-takers
  • Answer students’ questions to clarify test requirements or help with tech set up
  • Explain the time limit and ensure there is a clock in the classroom showing the correct time
  • Make reasonable adjustments for test-takers with additional needs (e.g. arranging a scribe for test-takers unable to use a keyboard).
